After two wildly successful events honoring the best social media projects, programs and campaigns in the in the US. the 3rd annual SoMe Awards are ramping up! In 2009, Social Media Club Portland, SEMpdx, the Software Association of Oregon and Innotech presented one of the nation’s first social media awards programs to a capacity crowd of 200+ marketing and technology leaders. These organizations – joined by the blogging mavens at TMMpdx.com – are planning an expanded event this year. Join web and mobile experts in an all day Hackathon for Social Good. Hackathons are events when programmers and designers meet to work collaboratively to build programs and applications.

The internet is exploding with creative ways to connect with people. Whether you’re a painter, sculptor, dancer, or musician, the internet can be a powerful tool for building an audience and making money. The tricky part isn’t finding stuff to do; it’s finding the RIGHT stuff to do.

Setting up a website, Facebook Fan page, and Twitter account isn’t enough.  You need to figure out who you’re trying to reach, where they spend their time online and what they will find interesting enough to follow you, show up at your events, and spend some money.

This class will focus on strategy and planning, the stuff you can’t get from an online tutorial. We will spend time brain storming, writing and sharing. You are welcome to bring your laptop or smart phone but it won’t be necessary to get the most out of the experience.

Presenter: Elgé Premeau is an internet marketing consultant. For the last 10 years she has worked with consultants, writers and artists to build an online audience.
